Collections
bullet St. Vital Library's collections aim to provide materials of interest to all of our customers whether you are an avid reader or a music and movie fan.

bullet One of the highlights of the adult collection is the availability of older fiction titles along with popular bestsellers. We have in our closed stacks titles by authors such as Nellie McClung and Frederick Grove which are available for circulation upon request. The adult collections are housed on the main floor.

bullet Our young adult area is housed on a separate mezzanine. There is a comfortable chair and a study table where students can work together or just eat lunch. Items for circulation include novels, graphic novels, audio books, DVDs and magazines -- all of which cater to customers 12 - 17 years old.

bullet The children's collection features story books, beginning readers, and children's novels -- both classic and current, as well as audiovisual formats such as DVDs, and audio books. We are particularly proud to circulate juvenile dual language books in the collection. These are books which are written in English plus one other language (such as Punjabi or Cree). The story is written in both languages side by side so that the books can be read by an individual in their birth language and then also in English. Most of our children's materials are housed on the second floor of the library, but books for our youngest customers are on the main floor.

History
bullet The first St. Vital Library operated from a small rented quarters near the junction of St. Mary's and St. Anne's roads. In 1961, the City of St. Vital sold the present site to the Library Board for one dollar. The library at its present location was opened in 1963. Architect George A. Stewart designed the building. The unusual shape of the property resulted in the construction of a circular building with a linear extension. The interior features a mezzanine, wood roof members, a natural wood deck and skylights in both the east and west sides of the building.
