Parent Pack
The Parent Pack is a unique service. Board books, books for babies and toddlers, cassettes of lullabies and toddler songs and a video on reading from the Reading Council of Greater Winnipeg have been placed in Winnipeg Public Library Book Bags. The pack can be taken home by new parents to enjoy for one week (and, if needed, renewed up to two times.) The family can keep the gift board book and the booklet on reading included in the pack.
Reading to children from an early age encourages a close relationship and helps children learn. Babies especially love being held close and hearing and seeing all that books have to offer. We hope that this project will encourage a lifelong love of reading.
Several community donations have made the Parent Pack program possible. The Winnipeg Public Library appreciates the generous on-going support of Investors Group and the contributions of the East Kildonan/Transcona Library Advisory andthe East Kildonan/ Transcona Community Committee Committee. The Parent Packs were originally developed with funding from a literacy grant from the Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg.
